adidas Originals and Silence Please have teamed up for the opening of a new flagship store in SoHo, bringing together sound design, architecture, and limited apparel in a collaboration that puts New York’s creative culture front and center.
The new store is located at 135 Spring Street, and from the jump, it’s clear this isn’t your standard retail space. Music and creativity are baked into the store’s identity, which makes sense given adidas Originals’ long history with both. To mark the opening, Silence Please designed and installed a permanent custom sound system inside the flagship — and it’s hard to miss.
The installation features oversized horn-loaded speakers that double as sculptural objects within the store’s interior. Built around horn-loaded acoustic principles, the speakers use geometric forms that are as much about how they look as how they sound. The result is a large-format piece that functions like architecture — a permanent fixture that makes sound a physical part of the space rather than just background noise. Silence Please has built a reputation for exactly this kind of work, combining acoustic engineering with sculptural design to create systems that work across intimate settings and larger cultural venues.
The collaboration extends beyond the walls of the store through a limited-edition Firebird track jacket. The design keeps things clean with a black-on-black colorway, letting the custom embroidery by Arena Embroidery do the talking. Across the back, the embroidery maps out the exact geometry of the installation’s horns as a technical wireframe — essentially wearing the architecture. It’s a subtle but considered detail that ties the jacket directly back to the physical space.
Only 100 jackets will be released, and the permanent sound installation remains on view at the SoHo flagship. For more updates on culture, fashion, and everything in between, stay tuned to VZN.
