MENACE is back with adidas for a follow-up to their 2024 “Heirlooms” Superstar collaboration, and this time the drop comes with a deeply personal story behind it. The new colorway, “Old Rose,” arrives just in time for Mother’s Day and carries a meaning that goes well beyond the design itself.
The shoe is a tribute from MENACE founder Steven Mena to his immigrant mother — a nod to the resilience it takes to leave everything behind and start over in a new country. The dusty rose pink colorway was actually inspired by her favorite flower, something Mena found out by calling her the moment adidas brought the team to headquarters to begin the design process. That conversation became the entire foundation for the shoe’s aesthetic direction.
Built on the same Superstar silhouette from their first collab, the “Old Rose” keeps the rugged workwear materials and clean stitching that defined the original, while the new colorway — officially listed as Hazy Rose/Wonder White/Gold Metallic — gives it a softer, more sentimental feel. It’s one of those releases where the backstory genuinely adds something to how the shoe looks and feels.
Mena put it plainly: the shoes carry his mother’s spirit, the weight of her sacrifices, and the love that built everything he’s created through MENACE. That kind of honesty in a product release is rare, and it lands.
To mark the launch, MENACE and adidas are hosting a pop-up flower shop in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 9th. The first 100 people who show up with their mom or a loved one get complimentary flowers, plus a buy-one, gift-one option on the shoe. La Princesa Bakery will be on-site with custom conchas, and Harun Coffee is bringing matcha and sparkling lemonade. Limited-edition tees will also be available while supplies last.
The MENACE x adidas Superstar 82 “Old Rose” officially drops on Mother’s Day, May 10th, via adidas CONFIRMED and the MENACE website, retailing at $180 USD. For more updates on the latest drops and culture, stay tuned to VZN.
