IKEA is back with its PS 2026 “Playful Functionality” collection — the tenth installment of its iconic PS line and the first drop since 2017. Featuring 44 pieces developed by 12 designers, the range is all about joy, interaction, and smart design without compromising on accessibility.
The collection leans into IKEA’s Democratic Design principles, balancing form, function, quality, sustainability, and affordability across the board. Some of the standout pieces come from a strong roster of designers, each bringing something distinct to the table.
Mikael Axelsson reimagines the inflatable chair — a ’90s staple — with a sturdier metal frame and textile cover that gives it the feel of a proper armchair. Lex Pott contributes a flexible cylindrical floor lamp that users can reconfigure however they like, while Marta Krupińska brings in a solid pine rocking bench that feels grounded and tactile.
On the craftsmanship side, Friso Wiersma draws inspiration from boatbuilding techniques for a series of storage pieces, and Ola Wihlborg delivers a high-comfort sofa-bed built with pocket springs for a genuinely good night’s sleep.
The collection is clearly designed with smaller, modern living spaces in mind. There are foldable tables and chairs, rolling trolleys, and cable-hiding bedside tables — all built around the idea that your furniture should surprise you a little and work harder for you.
Pricing runs from under £2.50 (around $3 USD) for wall decor all the way up to £550 (around $715 USD) for the sofa-bed. The PS 2026 collection hit stores on May 14, 2026, with online availability opening up from May 22, 2026. For more updates on design and culture, stay tuned to VZN.
