Drake just pulled off one of the most unexpected moves in recent music history. What fans thought would be a single midnight album drop turned into a full triple release and nobody saw it coming.
The OVO boss took to Instagram to reveal that alongside his long-anticipated solo project ICEMAN, he would also be dropping two completely unannounced full-length albums: HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR. All three hit streaming platforms at the same time, making this one of the most unprecedented release moments the 6 God has ever pulled off.
ICEMAN had been building momentum for months through a major promotional rollout that included a multi-part livestream series, so fans were already geared up. But HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR were kept completely under wraps until the final hours before the drop, no leaks, no hints, nothing.
The album artwork for ICEMAN features a blurred image of a bedazzled white glove, a clear nod to Michael Jackson, whose iconic glove Drake reportedly purchased for $120,000 USD. The visual landed even harder considering Drake had recently surpassed MJ’s historic Billboard 200 milestone. When ICEMAN finally dropped, the demand was so intense it caused both Apple Music and Spotify to crash.
ICEMAN comes in as an 18-track project featuring collaborators including 21 Savage, Future, and Molly Santana. Drake is not holding back on the record — he takes direct shots at several industry figures. On “Make Them Pay,” he calls out DJ Khaled, and on “Janice STFU,” he revisits his ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar, keeping the tension very much alive.
All three albums ICEMAN, HABIBTI, and MAID OF HONOUR are now available on streaming platforms. For more updates on the latest in music and culture, stay tuned to VZN.
