At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the iconic toy brand Lego unveiled its innovative Smart Play system. This new line of Lego products includes bricks, tags, and minifigures equipped with cutting-edge sensors and tiny speakers, revolutionizing interactive play for kids and fans alike.
The heart of this system is the advanced Lego Smart Brick, featuring a custom chip smaller than a standard Lego stud. By integrating “invisible” technologies into its pieces, Lego creates a unique play experience where bricks respond to user interactions with lights and sounds. The Smart Play system incorporates real-time interaction through sensors, accelerometers, light-sensing tech, and sound activators. A miniature speaker driven by an onboard synthesizer enhances the immersive experience. The components communicate using copper coils, magnetic fields, and Bluetooth, reminiscent of contactless tech.
Scheduled for release in March 2026, the first sets to feature Smart Play are three Star Wars sets. Fans can look forward to interactive elements like the iconic Lightsaber sounds with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker’s figures and The Imperial March with Emperor Palpatine. Wireless charging for the bricks is provided through a unique yellow dock.
Additionally, CES showcased innovations such as Samsung’s minimalist speaker by Erwan Bouroullec and Punkt’s privacy-focused smartphone. The event runs from January 6 to 9, 2026, in Las Vegas, highlighting major developments in technology and design.
