Nintendo has finally pulled the curtain back on its much-awaited Switch 2, marking a new chapter in the gaming world. Following its wildly successful predecessor, the Switch 2 is here to recapture the hearts of gamers. While the company unveiled its sleek design and some features, several key details are still shrouded in mystery. We’re yet to learn the price, official release date, or the exact lineup of games that will accompany it. However, fans were treated to a tantalizing teaser of a new Mario Kart installment.
In the launch video, a few definite rumors about the Switch 2 have been confirmed. The new console will largely maintain the original Switch design but boasts enhancements like magnetic connections on the Joy-Cons. Interestingly, these Joy-Cons might double up as a mouse, offering gamers a unique gameplay experience. As console enthusiasts speculate on what else the Switch 2 might offer, its launch is set to conclude the original Switch’s impressive nine-year run. Launched in March 2017, the original Switch became the third-best-selling console ever by October 2024, only trailing the Nintendo DS and Sony’s PlayStation 2.
Much anticipation surrounded the Switch 2 over the past year, and Nintendo’s CEO had already set the stage for the big reveal. In March, the company announced plans to debut the new console within the year. By November, fans learned that the Switch 2 would support backward compatibility with existing Switch games, which raised excitement levels. Pre-order activity from third-party accessory makers hinted at the console’s design and functionalities, sparking discussions across the gaming community.
With an official Nintendo Direct session on April 2 promising more insights, global “Switch 2 Experience” events have been lined up to further engage fans. These events, accessible to anyone with a Nintendo account, will span cities worldwide, offering people a first-hand look at the new console.
