New Balance is taking us on a nostalgic journey by reviving the 740, a beloved running shoe from the 2000s. Originally hailed for its dependability and comfort, this silhouette quickly became a go-to for the running community. Now reimagined for everyday wear, the 740 retains its essence while blending seamlessly into modern style.
The updated version pays homage to its Y2K roots with key design elements that have been thoughtfully preserved. It sports an open knit mesh that enhances breathability, synthetic overlays for support, and speed lacing for a snug fit. However, the most notable enhancement lies in the midsole. The original N-ergy technology has been swapped for a full ABZORB midsole, offering superior impact absorption with its ingenious mix of cushioning and resistance.
David Kent, Senior Product Manager for Lifestyle at New Balance, shared insights into the 740’s reimagining. “The 740 is a true 2000s classic,” he stated, emphasizing the balance between old and new elements. While the shoe remains true to its origins with materials like synthetic overlays and mesh, it also introduces fresh colorways and trim, making it a chic addition to any wardrobe.
Adding some star power to the relaunch, artist Aminé presents his unique take on the 740 before its official release. Meanwhile, the first general release in a striking white, marsh green, and metallic silver colorway offers a peek at the revamped design. This specific iteration, dubbed the “Marsh Green,” is set to drop on October 16th. It will be available on the New Balance website and selected retailers for $110 USD.
