“Joker: Folie à Deux” made a poor splash with audiences, catching a rare D CinemaScore
This makes it the lowest-rated comic book movie, trailing even 2015’s “Fantastic Four,” which settled at a C-. By contrast, the original 2019 “Joker” flick scored a healthier B+. The latest film sees Joaquin Phoenix returning to his iconic villain role, but he’s not alone this time.
Lady Gaga teams up with Phoenix, bringing her flair to Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, also known as Harley Quinn. Their twisted romance takes center stage in this musical sequel, accompanied by talents such as Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.
Financial expectations were high, aiming for a box office return between $50 and $60 million USD. Instead, it opened in the mid-$40 million USD range. Comparatively, the first “Joker” film shattered records with a $96.2 million USD debut and ultimately crossing the $1 billion USD mark globally.
