Tom Shelby is making a return. Netflix has given a sneak peek of Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy reprising his role as the infamous gangster in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film. Both Murphy and creator Steven Knight are back to explore a fresh narrative about the Peaky Blinders gang, this time set in post-WWI Birmingham. The streaming giant has shared a photo of Murphy in character along with an image of him and Knight together.
The film is directed by Tom Harper, who previously directed several episodes of the series. The project was officially announced this June, following the series’ sixth and final season, which aired in 2022 after its 2013 debut. Reflecting on the film, Murphy stated:
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
Steven Knight, the original writer, has also penned the film script and is co-producing with Cillian Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. The executive production team includes Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.
Although many details about the film are still under wraps, it was mentioned that Barry Keoghan is joining the cast. However, his role remains undisclosed at this time. You can check out the first images shared on social media below.
