Dingyun Zhang and adidas Originals are stepping things up with a fresh new collaboration that’s definitely something to talk about. Their latest creation, the Kouza silhouette, blends visionary design with everyday practicality, embodying what Zhang calls “the oscillation between form and function while retaining elegance and style.” It’s his first original model with adidas after remixing the classic Samba. This sneaker captures Zhang’s knack for futuristic vibes, all while giving a nod to his roots.
Zhang, an alum of both YEEZY and Central Saint Martins, is well-known for his unique voice in the design world, primarily through his oversized puffer creations and reinterpretations of ancient Chinese and Mongolian armor. However, with the Kouza, he shifts focus to a more recent muse: the 2008 Beijing Olympics Boxing Boot from adidas. The Kouza amps up the drama with a layered mid silhouette, ventilated netting underlays, and a standout sole that plays with proportions. One of its most striking features is the oversized heel counter that stretches over the pull tab, showcasing Zhang’s playful approach to design.
Dropping in three different colorways, the Kouza caters to a range of style preferences. There’s a primarily black pair with bold blue laces for those who like a little edge, a gray one featuring light blue and tan accents for a muted vibe, and a predominantly white version with soft green highlights for the minimalists at heart. Alongside this fresh footwear style, the partnership is also rolling out new colorways for the Samba, including tonal gray, and a stylish brown with contrasting orange and white details.
Mark your calendars because this latest Dingyun Zhang adidas collection is set to hit select stores on October 15. Stay tuned to VZN for more updates and all things culture and fashion.
