Upstate New York’s Storm King Art Center turned into the epicenter of pop innovation on Thursday. The scene-stealer? A striking Brat green structure, shaped like a record sleeve, heralding the arrival of Charli XCX’s latest album. Titled Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, this album is set to redefine pop landscapes. Against a backdrop of lush greenery, Charli XCX unveiled her remixed masterpiece to a cozy gathering of fans, transitioning what was once the summer of Brat into autumn vibes. The full setlist of 16 hyper tracks has dropped, and the music world just got its hands on something fresh.
Discussing the album’s creative process, Charli shared her belief that a song’s release doesn’t signal its end—there are countless versions waiting to be unleashed. Her latest creation does exactly that, reimagining previous hits with such vigor that they almost sound new. This album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, flips her flagship record on its head, bringing a whirlwind of rejuvenated and exploratory sounds.
Some stellar collabs stand out in the album. Robyn and Yung Lean team up on “360,” while Ariana Grande lends an ethereal flair to “Sympathy is a Knife.” The 1975 and Jon Hopkins stir things up with a bold reinvention of “I Might Say Something Stupid,” and Bon Iver gives “I Think About It All the Time” a touch of timeless magic. Meanwhile, Tinashe amps it up on “B2b.”
Elsewhere, remixes feature contributions from Troye Sivan, Addison Rae, A.G. Cook, Caroline Polachek, Bladee, Lorde, Julian Casablancas, Bb trickz, Shygirl, and Billie Eilish. Each artist adds their unique touch, making this album a rich tapestry of modern music.
