Balenciaga made an impression at Paris Fashion Week with its Summer 2025 show. Held at a grand banquet, the event attracted a star-studded audience, including Nicole Kidman, Future, Katy Perry, and Lindsay Lohan. For designer Demna, this show was a full circle moment that reconnected him with his early fashion experiences.
Demna shared his inspiration, saying, “My early memories of fashion start with me drawing looks on cardboard, cutting them out and making ‘fashion shows’ on my kitchen table. Thirty-five years later, this show reconnects me to the beginning of my vision. It’s a tribute to fashion that has a point of view.”
The venue featured an extraordinarily long dining table where guests enjoyed a literal and figurative feast. Demna presented a manifesto that was bold and subversive. Glittering lingerie was worn under fur coats, classic “Fashion Designer” puffers were paired with low-rise trousers, and denim pants were repurposed as jacket lapels. Additionally, models had iPhones hanging from their wrists, displaying Balenciaga’s iconography, with chargers neatly attached to the exterior of their bags. Hats were turned down to maintain anonymity.
The show concluded with a striking triangular black satin gown, a signature of Demna’s design. The dramatic end was marked by the sudden halt of Britney Spears’ “Gimme More,” signaling that the event was over. Demna’s objective was to push the boundaries of fashion and offer a glimpse into its future.
